Kenyan-born Bahraini Eunice Kirwa claimed bronze in 2:27.39, while defending champion Edna Kiplagat could only finish fifth (2:28.18) behind Kenyan teammate Jemima Sumgong (2:27.42).

Europe is struggling to find a coherent approach as its governments face a record influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing conflict in the Middle East and Africa. Police said the victims, believed to be mainly refugees fleeing the war in Syria, may have been dead for up to two days.
